My name is Hideki Takakubo, and I am the representative of BPOC Co., Ltd. and HiPE, our local subsidiary in the Philippines.

It was November 2019 when I established "HiPE" for the purpose of establishing an offshore development base in Cebu. However, the client cannot come to Cebu to see the IT engineers and BPO staff who have been assigned to the lab contract. It has been a year and a half since the establishment of HiPE, an offshore base in Cebu. I would like to convey the current situation of HiPE while reflecting on the fact that I have not been able to spread information as a representative.

What about the current situation in Cebu? ?

In early 2020, when the pandemic started, Cebu had strict community isolation measures in an area with many active cases in the Philippines. We are here. Even so, the economic damage to the tourism industry in Cebu, which is famous for resort tourism, is enormous. However, on the other hand, the current situation is that industries such as offshore development bases like HiPE, BPO, call centers, etc. are able to operate globally without any problems. In this article, I would like to introduce you to the current situation of HiPE's offshore base.

Do engineers go to the office? ?

Yes! We do.

However, currently, we are implementing rotation work for each project team. Before the pandemic, all employees went to work in a car like a shared van called a jeepney. However, due to social distancing, the number of clerks who can ride at one time is limited, and it is difficult to use this jeepney to go to work on time every day. . Also, since we have to limit the number of people working in the office, about 10 members come to work in rotation every day and communicate with each other while regularly confirming the progress of the project face-to-face. Also, if the client wishes to have a general meeting, everyone is coming to work. Compared to when everyone went to the office before the pandemic, we are able to operate without any problems.

What kind of development does HiPE currently help with?

Currently, we have assigned 70% of our engineers as coders and QA staff for web development for Japanese clients. If it is a corporate site of about 5 pages, it is possible to code about 3 sites per person in a month. We have assigned 15% of our engineers as Java-main mobile and web application development members. We don't have any members who can develop games yet, but we have a track record of developing matching and messaging apps. We have assigned the remaining 15% of our engineers as design and drafting engineers for the real estate industry.

I'm worried about English communication in lab type development...

At present, all clients have been worried about communicating with engineers in English before starting, but HiPE has resolved all such concerns. The Japan Desk BPOC has an interpreter with SE experience, so it is possible to convey instructions to Filipino engineers who are difficult to understand without problems. Another strong point of HiPE and Japan Desk BPOC is that you can give advice on how to directly give instructions to engineers using the chat tool.

Is it possible to assign to development in this situation?
